Bloomberg Special on the Future of Value Investing from Columbia Business School

On April 23, 2010 Bloomberg TV convened a panel of top value investors at Columbia Business School to discuss the future of value investing.  Members of the panel, led by Bloomberg anchor Betty Liu, included Professor Bruce Greenwald (Columbia Business School Professor and Director of Research at First Eagle Funds), Robert Olstein (Chairman of Olstein Capital Management LP), Thomas Russo, (Partner at Gardner Russo & Gardner), and David Winters (CEO of Wintergreen Advisers LLC).

 

The 21 minute program is a must watch and is filled with gems of value investing wisdom.   You can watch the entire program here.

Julian Robertson – Father of the Cubs

Each year, approximately 20 Columbia MBA students are accepted into a semester long seminar called: Advanced Investment Research – The Analyst’s Edge.  The Class was developed and is taught by John Griffin and David Greenspan (MBA ’00) of  Blue Ridge Capital.  I can honestly say that spending a semester in this class, which was visited by David Einhorn, Bill Ackman, and Ian McKinnon, among others, created an experience that would be quite difficult to match.

Our final stock pitch was delivered in the boardroom of Tiger Management to legendary hedge fund manager, Julian Robertson.  This was just another of the many once-in-a-lifetime experiences provided by Columbia Business School and The Heilbrunn Center for Graham and Dodd Investing.

…tomorrow Columbia Business School will host businessmen and philanthropists Warren Buffett, MS ’51, and Bill Gates as part of our practice of bringing influential business leaders to campus to share their insights. The event promises to be lively, with students able to ask questions on these icons’ ventures, philosophies and views on business. The exchange will be filmed by CNBC for global broadcast under the title “Warren Buffett and Bill Gates: Keeping America Great.”  In the United States it will air on Thursday, November 12 at 9 p.m. ET; in Asia on November 13 at 1200 SIN/HK; and in Europe on November 15 at 13.00 CET.
